“You won’t-“ Bakugou screamed as his hands flared up.

“Kacchan!” an 18 year old Midoriya screamed up as he rushed the stairs.

“-take me-“ the fire in his heart burned with the passion to destroy.

“Kacchan, wait!!!” Midoriya ran up the the last steps, just in time to hear and see the devastion that was before and becoming of the battle field. Fire flecked in his eyes as the villain charged Bakugou.

“ALIVE!!!”

“KACCHAN, NO!!!” In the heat of a massive explosion, all sounds were drown out. The villain would be defeated; and Midoriya suffered no casualty.

As much as Midoriya had begged his luck that he and Bakugou would some day see eye to eye, even after years of attending school together, there was still a barrier between them that he could not tear down. Bakugou did as little as tolerate him, but any advance at friendship or even companionship was shot down: “I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU IF YOU GET THAT CLOSE AGAIN.” Things like that. Midoriya rarely let his threats get to him. A mixture of words and curses led Midoriya to understand the true meaning of his words: I don’t want to be your fucking friend, I want to fucking destroy you. It was always that way…

But still, Midoriya couldn’t shake the importance Bakugou held in his life. He remembered… terror as Bakugou detonated, the fire that flashed past him and ignited his hair at the very edges… Against the blast he tried to run again, just in time to grab the collapsing Bakugou and hold him as the building below them collapsed into a heap. His rival won the fight, the villain was knocked out and captured, but at what cost?

Midoriya was hardly in critical condition after the incident, and after a day in the hospital for minor injuries, he was free to go. Changing out of his gown and into his civilian clothes, he thought for a moment of the couple of minutes he held Bakugou tight in his arms. He remembered trembling in fear as he listened to each time Bakugou breathed, horrified if the draw of air could possibly be his last. It haunted him even now… but he knew that Bakugou was just a few doors down from his own, unconscious, but expected to recover.

Moving out of his room and thanking the nurse who had attended to him, he asked if it were alright to visit Bakugou for a time – “We have a lot to thank of you, Midoriya-kun. You may visit Bakugou as much as you like.” He smiled and thanked the nurse. If that were the case… He looked in the door for a moment, seeing that Bakugou was still quietly asleep, and chose to come back in an hour.

In the two years since they had joined U.A, the two of them had grown a lot but… Bakugou still was in many ways the same, just a taller boy with a raspier voice. Midoriya, however, seemed to fill into himself, a young man by ever definition of the word. Once gangly and small, he seemed to become more and more like All Might every day. His smile was bright in battle, his chest puffed with an air of confidence. There were still a year of school left to attend, but it could be said with confidence that Midoriya would be ready to be a full hero. After all they had already been through…. How often villains came after him and Bakugou, as well as their friends… they may as well have been ready now.

Returning an hour later, Midoriya knocked first before entering, but no answer came. It was just him and the sleeping Bakugou. “Kacchan?” he ventured, but after moments of silence he slipped in quietly. From the looks of things, his mother had already been by, as a vase of flowers sat on a table by Bakugou’s head, and Midoriya smiles as he looks over it. “Get well soon or I’ll kick your ass,” he read out loud, seeing that his mother had added the latter part to the card. Like mother like son. He blushed as he looked over the flowers, “Hers are a lot nicer…” He felt a little embarrassed, for in his left hand Midoriya held a bouquet of his own; red and white carnations with budding roses, flowers he knew little to nothing about. He almost doesn’t put the bouquet down, suddenly ashamed of himself. He had listened to closely to Bakugou’s breath just a two nights ago. Letting go of Bakugou for the ambulance to help him had been strangely painful.

His eyes light up as motion to his left stirs him to panic. Was Bakugou waiting up?? His head turns, he drops the flowers by instinct alone (Bakugou couldn’t know they were from him), and speaks with fear and worry: “Kacchan?”

The blond turns and grumbles, shuffling quietly before opening his eyes. Tears threatened Midoriya’s eyes as he looked on the waking Bakugou, and without thinking he blurts out again: “Kacchan you’re awake!!”

But Bakugou seems disgusted. “Quit mumbling!”

“Mum- I’m not mumbling! What-“ but he realizes in a moment that Bakugous eyes are wide with horror, and Midoriya leans away. “S-“ what was he supposed to say? “Stay here! Doctor? Nurse” He can’t bear to look at Bakugou’s face a moment longer as he turns and runs out of the room. What the hell was that? He’d never seen the boy struck silent quiet like that.
