hi! I was wondering if you has any theories on tooru? I know her being the traitor would be a but their are so many hints (even tho koshi could have done it on purpose)

Hi! I had actually been thinking about doing a write up on this after having recently watched the traitor theory by Joy_Boy_Theories on youtube. (Take note, I’m assuming this is THE origin of the hagakure traitor theory.) It’s not a bad theory, I definitely don’t dislike it, and honestly there are a fair number of interesting points made in the theory that I think hold a lot of validity, and it works remarkably well alongside some of the information I’ve already proposed in my own theory. I would absolutely be interested in hearing what Joy Boy’s thoughts on what I’ve written would be, but at the same time I don’t wanna bother him, lol. Serendipitously, we both stated that there might be two traitors, so, LMAO.

But anyway, this is going to be kind of lengthy, because I have a fair amount of thoughts! So let’s call this……

SO LET’S TALK “WHO’S THE TRAITOR” YET AGAIN!!!!!

I’ll lay it on strong to start: Hagakure being the traitor has a lot of wasted potential to it, and frankly, if it’s her by herself as the traitor, I’ll be pretty disappointed in Horikoshi. I know she’s a cute character, and I’m sure that she’s well liked among most people, but she’s spent most of her involvement in the storyline being a gag - the girl that you forget is part of the storyline until she reappears again. And that’s a great gag for an invisible girl, but it’s a bit plain for what I’ve experienced traitor storylines to be. It’s not really upsetting, it’s probably not going to make many of us feel exceptionally betrayed, and it’s sort of a cop out, too. Ultimately, it’s kind of… boring? At least, I think so, and I know other people (even after reading this) have still really liked the Hagakure theory, so it’s okay if you disagree.

I stand firmly beside my own opinions regarding Uraraka being the better case scenario for traitor theory. It’s interesting, it has a lot of dynamic to it, and it creates a lot of character development not just for her but also for other characters around her. If Hagakure is the traitor, it seems unlikely anyone would go after her to “save her” - which I think would be a pretty important aspect to have in a series like My Hero Academia, given the fact that we’re already witnessing All Might desperately wishing that he could save Shigaraki somehow. I really want Midoriya, Iida, and Tsuyu to chase after Uraraka in hopes to save her, because these three are some of our most main characters as well as Uraraka’s closest friends. And besides that, the connections drawn between her and Toga…. and her struggle with her crush… It just… it feels like a lot gets left behind when Uraraka isn’t the traitor.

Hagakure doesn’t really gain or lose anything if it’s just her being the traitor, but maybe there’s something I’m not imagining.

But, like, don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy what Joy Boy has said. I don’t really think anything he’s said is wrong or misconstrued. Hell, if I were to come up with any ~debunking~, it’d mostly just sound like douchy excuses to dismiss the theory, and I’m not about that because it’s seriously just theorizing.

My only criticism that *might* be warranted is a concern about translations, because I don’t know where he got his sources from. The part when Hagakure claims she was with Todoroki but knows what happened with Ojiro makes me wonder if the translation might have been screwed up. FA has a record of being very bad with translations (e.g. they translated the “first years” who got expelled the previous year as “first graders”) as well as making up lines or personality of the characters (e.g. Midoriya “hates ; and I’ve seen Mangastream fuck up translations between Bakugou and Midoriya (e.g. when the two of them are cleaning, the speech bubbles get switched so it sounds like Bakugou initiates the conversation, and also it’s just translated kinda sloppily.) Now, I don’t think that invalidates their entire argument or even that portion, it just makes me worry a little, and wonder if there’s more to it. If a line was lost somewhere. The same could be said of my own sources as I didn’t always cite the translator, but for the most part I was more concerned with imagery than text.

Note: I’m not sure if I can pull up the sources of the afore mentioned translations any more. MS obviously takes down its translations, and kissmanga I think switched the chapters to the VIZ scans that got released.

So I mean, that’s just my two-cents. If I break that down into a TL;DR, it would be: I just think Hagakure being the only traitor is a really lame plot twist? But, and I really wanna stress this, that’s very much just an opinion. If you still like Hagakure as the sole traitor, then more power to you.

HOLY HOT DANG, though, as a two person traitor theory in combination???? THIS is why I had been thinking about writing AGAIN on the traitor theory, because it some how fills in a pretty important plot point that I was having a lot of trouble figuring out - because yeah, I still think about traitor theory daily and even since my last post I’m remembering details that I’ve forgotten, only recently picked up, or have had others mention and want to connect in new ways.

I don’t want to get married to this idea, but I’m going to write it out anyway; so by extension, anyone reading this please exercise caution and skepicism and whatever defense against this you can. And don’t mind me if I sound like I’m writing the first Uraraka traitor fanfic, because I have a lot of emotions……

My biggest problem with Uraraka traitor theory (imo) was that I had no idea when Uraraka could have started becoming the traitor. In my second post, I mentioned that I believed initially that she had always been the traitor from the very start. But as I worked through the series, I was less convinced of it being from the start, and more convinced that it might have been at some point in the middle. I wrote about this in response to an ask over here, but to summarize, my current thought is that Uraraka became the traitor some how after sports fest.

Put Hagakure into the equation and suddenly… a lot of things start to make a lot more sense? Joy Boy mentions that the League of Villains needed an inside man of sorts in order to get the class schedule to plan their attack and destroy All Might in a swift blow. With all the suspicious things revolving around Hagakure in this scene, who am I to claim that there’s no doubt she is the original traitor? For the sake of the argument, let’s assume that Joy Boy’s points are all correct, and that she is responsible for all of this.

Jump ahead. Her quirk is being invisible, right? So there’s honestly a lot of reason for us to believe that there might be a chance that Hagakure has, at some point, listened in on Uraraka’s conversations with other characters, such as when she explains to Iida and Midoriya how she wants to make money for her family and the other crucial conversation when she’s crying on the phone to her father. Maybe not even listened in purposefully, but instead accidentally listened in, because in this case her gag actually works as a plot device, so her having accidentally listened in because she went unnoticed? It’s kind of charming; and normally, I kind of hate these plot twists.

No doubt whoever is getting the information for the League of Villains is also being paid handsomely. Maybe Hagakure takes pity on Uraraka after realizing how much she’s struggling? So she makes Uraraka an offer that she can’t refuse - Uraraka caught in a state of weakness after being crushed in the sports fest agrees to help Hagakure.

Perhaps this is where Joy Boy and I would separate, but I think what happens next isn’t quite as relevant, but can you imagine Uraraka making the call to summon the League of Villains to the summer camp??? It would explain why she acts so weird after Bakugou is kidnapped, feeling guilty in some ways perhaps because she knew she was responsible for all of it. Which could, in turn, explain why the LoV wasn’t tipped off to the upcoming raid on their hideout - because Hagakure was out cold, and Uraraka felt too guilty to tip them off. By extension, that guilt could still put her in an awkward position when they’re deciding to go save Bakugou - hence why she says very little during the conversation.

There’s obviously some blank space to deal with between there, but I don’t think Uraraka would have chickened out completely at the end of the day because she… seriously could not have. There’s no really good way to explain how Hagakure is involved with the most recent betrayal of information. Too many pro heroes are involved in the scenario for an Invisible Girl to get away with sneaking into the conversation. It seems most likely that Hagakure some how missed out on the opportunity to get an internship with relevant parties and the task of leaking information had to be pushed off onto Uraraka.

This is all highly speculative, and probably not as well written as it could be, but holy heckie, you can’t tell me this doesn’t sound at least a little bit cool. It would make a really compelling storyline for Uraraka going through these motions; and to see it all drawn out in flashbacks, to me, sounds absolutely delightful.

On her own, Hagakure really doesn’t come off to me as a traitor theory that would hold any exceptional weight to it as it is, especially given her lack of connection to the main characters in the series; but coupled with what I’ve already written on Uraraka, I’m just so… MWAH. Ç’est Magnifique. If it doesn’t happen like this, I won’t be sad, but god, I would be so happy if it were real. In the end, however, I haven’t been won over quite. Uraraka is the traitor I’ll be praying for.

So…. after all that….. it’s a little hard to answer your final note about Horikoshi has been doing it on purpose as a red herring. It’s possible, obviously, but I think we would be due an explanation all the same for why Hagakure was so strange in that initial part of the series.
